I'm not too knowledgeable on deer hunting rifles but I've heard Weatherby makes a good .223 for something under $250. Ask RushN I believe he has one.

edit: The model is Vanguard.

ahh yeah ive heard they are good. if i got one it would probably be in .30-06 rather as i want to be able to more or less drop something in one shot.

i also saw a nice remington with a mauser action at bass pro for about 400, but they wont let me buy even a rifle untill im 21(have no ****ing idea why but the guy that helped me said it was their policy ) .. so thats out of the question,... at least getting it from them anyways.

wish they still made em with iron sights , its kinda hard for me to use a scope due to a stigmatism in my right eye.

Its hard to find modern bolt guns w/ irons

Someone, Ruger maybe, makes a tracker type gun with irons, but it isnt cheap

Im a big fan of the Tikka series and the Savages.

They do not have irons but are usually sub 500 bucks

a few months back i found a Remington r700 with iron sights on it, used obviously. but didnt have the money for it... i would have loved it.. naturally its been sold already.

i guess i could always buy a mosin and get it drilled and tapped for a modern scope mount. and get a bent bolt for it

not only that 7.62x54R is the cheapest hi-powered cartridge out there right now and is not in high demand plus plentiful especially in bulk. 30-06 is more expensive than .308 as of now and is already more than $.50 a round. The Mosin will get the job done. It isn't super accurate for a bench and paper rifle but it is a rifle where if you point at something in a real situation, it will hit the target. J&G has them now for $399.95 in their complete configuration with scope fitting your criteria.

I am actually look for a cheap Mosin to plink with myself. Hopefully third time is a charm.

OR

you can get a Mauser. They are quite plentiful right now and can have them for as low as $150. There is quite a variety of them plus 8mm. ammo is also cheap and plentiful as of now. You can also opt for 7x57 Mauser for the Latin Mauser's which are also excellent plus the ammo will do some damage. Also it will not have the recoil or kick of the 8 so it will be more manageable yet the ammo is a tad more expensive.

ahhh **** yes!!! i mean id totaly pay the 399 for that mosin with that config.... just wish i had the money right now... i had it last week , but my car broke down and well....even doing the fix myself it drained allot of cash.

dont like muzzle loaders... i mean , they are fun and all.. but id much rather have a bolt of some sort , i like being able to fire more than one shot in rapid succession if the situation arises

dude, if you're hunting at reasonable ranges like up to 200 yards than Lee-Enfield for $150 or a Win 94 for $350, i got both, both kick ***.

dunno if you'll find an accurate 1000 yard gun for under $500 though.

For a 1000 yard gun you'll likely need a $500+ piece of glass.
