Does such a thing exist? Anyone know of one? 'cuz that's what I want!

Otherwise I suppose I can cut 2" off a 20" bbl...

Can't hand guards be swapped? Would make for an easy DYI.

The Gas Block needs to be in the proper position...
Presumably, if I got a small enough Gas Block (like the YHM Spectre), it might fit under the freefloat handguards I want, but I really don't want to chance it before I find out.

wouldn't cutting the barrels down make it illegal?

Only if I cut it shorter than 16".

The problem is that a 20" barrel won't fit in the case I use, not to mention it just looks dorky with a collapsible stock.
16" isn't too bad, but I'd like something a hair longer.
And yes, I know it's only 2" difference.

If I recall correctly, <16" requires a tax stamp.

And a Class III license.

And a Class III license.
Thought that was pretty much what the $200 tax stamp was.

Nope; $200 tax stamp + $3,000 per 3 years for a class III license

it is!
IIRC, CMMG has them in that configuration. There uppers run about 525-550 complete though you can also just buy the barrel too!

You should just get the barrel shortened. IMO
Or you could sell your upper and get a Bushmaster Dissipator, but IMO they are overpriced, just like all of Bushmaster.com's stuff, I'm sure you could find it cheaper elsewhere.
Uses rifle-length handguards on a 16" barrel.

Edit: Yeah, i just checked, Bushy wants $705 but PKFirearms will sell it for $520 w/flat-top, BCG, and charging handle.

That looks like the most likely course of action...
Good thing we have a tap/die set!

After you cut the end of the barrel off you have to step the diameter down before you thread the end. Look at the end.... see what I mean?http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/images/481.jpg
You'd really need to do this on a lathe.

The Dissipator from Bushmaster has a carbine length gas system, FYI
Id buy a 20" regular upper, then have the barrel shortened and gas port enlarged or just buy from CMMG if they make that one
Heres a CMMG w/ mid gas, bout 3/4 down the page-

Product Design is what I really want to do, but they don't offer that at my college... :(
So I'll take Mech. Design, then Protoype & Design.

I have the Upper...
I'll check out the barrels, but it seems to me that their prices leave a bit to be desired...

You can get an Armalite upper for 5, but they are Match HBars and you have to chop it down
