Ok, I wanted a carry handle on my (future) AR, but I don't want the ar-style one.
I really like the look of carry handles like the ones on the FAL or the SAW, so I decided to design and make one.
Right now, I have 2 possible designs, and I like the 1st one best, for ease of manufacture and tolerance for error when it comes to strength.

For the 1st one, the vertical part would be cast, with the contact parts milled. The horiz bar is basically a .25" pin that would slide through the vert. bar and the handle. The head of the pin would be welded (on the outside) to the vert bar, and a lock nut & washer would keep the handle in place. The bottom part of the vert. bar would be pinned to the Weaver base.

That would be great for a full length HBar w/ a Beta C mag as a 'squad support weapon', but beyond that I dont see a need
Cool idea though and to each their own, nice animation too!

The 2nd option is basically a single .25: wire/bar that is cut in two, one section bent like so, and both lopped off at the end at 45deg. angles, so they can be welded at a right angle. The bottom part of the vert. "bar" would be fitted by the little piece you can see, which would be milled and welded to the bar. This would let it be attached to the weaver base as you see by a pin.

Although it doesnt show, the mounting "base" is actually a 2-piece bracket-dealie.

Also, I designed it to be small and non-obtrusive, yet strong, so you can still use it with sights and optics without worrying about dropping your $1000+ gun.
Oh, and the handle will be able to swivel/fall to the side, but not so much as to make actual contact with the metal of the gun, so you don't damage your finish.

+1
The first one looks stronger.

The first one looks stronger.
If I made them right, both would be just as strong. However, the first one would be a lot more forgiving when it comes to strength if I were to, say, mess up on a weld or something.
That's because it relies on other methods of fastening, using a weld as a supporting fastner, while the second one would rely exclusively on a weld.
