I would really like to see the government/colleges change this policy but I don't believe it will happen to quickly. I can't even carry mine, and I am an LEO. The only time I would be able to is when I am working in Official Duties for the College !

I beleive that if you have a CCL or a LEO you should be able to carry on colleges. It's not the ones that went through all the background, testing, ect. to EARN the right to carry one needs to worry about it's the one who bought/stole the gun off someone in the back streets.

DT, when I was going to college and had to go to Main Campus, I went to school with one of the Captains from Kansas City Precints and he ALWAYS carried. His was concealed of course. Also, I had two instructors that carried also. I really don't think the school was going to mind though since one is a LT for the Police here and the other works for the "alphabet agencies". I'm really surprised you aren't allowed to carry when on campus. Does your state allow CCW? I know President Bush signed in act that ALL LEO's can carry ON AND OFF duty in all states.

My stated does not allow CCW! Does that act include college campuses that are "gun-free" zones. I do not think it does, but I could be wrong if you find anything out let me know. Also, my department policy states that when I carry my badge has to be VISIBLE to the public, sorry but I do not want EVERYONE I go to school with to know I am a Police Officer!!!!! So I digress! They have a police officer from the city patrolling the campus everyday though anyways, so I guess its really not THAT big of a deal.

It's funny how states differ. Our state isn't like that. I think if colleges would allow students to carry than their would be a lot less crime. The same goes with teachers to, if they were allowed to carry in schools (and in colleges) I don't think their would be shootings like their are now.

Ok maybe not my Sociology teacher. Once she realized who I was and who my husband was she CHANGED how she taught her class. Apparently, she was going like 50 something in a 30 something and guess who pulled her over??? Yup!! You guessed it! I HAD to memorize every thing word-for-word. the ENTIRE semester. I don't know how I came out with an 'A' for a grade but I did.
Here is a bit of advice for ya. When you take Psychology. If you have a "hippy" for a teacher. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER say this... "Who is the ******* who thought of this?" (speaking of spanking is BAD for children) It ONLY earns you a 'D' for a grade LOL I also said "Well, parents who don't spank their kids is why my husband and I have jobs." That didn't go over well with him either. I dodn't know why. LOL

My psychology was VERY pro LE, which made it nice because we would always discuss LE "Issues" in class which kept my attention VERY well. I ended up getting a 120% in that class!

How long was your academy? Did you enter prior before turning 18?

Robert,

I have not yet entered the academy. In my state you have one year from the date of hire to complete the academy. So I was hired 2 months ago (roughly) so from the date I accepted the offer I have 1 Calendar year to finish the academy to become a "certified" LEO. I still have all the arrest powers and carry capability as a "certified" LEO, I just don't have the certificate saying I went through the academy.

I know what you are thinking.....sending an untrained, person out into the field.

I am not untrained, I have been apart of the Law Enforcement Exploring program for roughly 6 years. During this time I learned everything you learn in the academy from certified instructors in those areas (such as OWI's, Tactical room clearing, Firearms, Traffic Stops, Domestic Crisis Intervention). I am going to through the academy next fall (starting in Aug. 08 and will be done by April 4th BECAUSE I HAVE TO). I have already completed the OC and Firearms portion of the academy because the department "fast tracked" me through those sections. Sorry for the long explaination, but I thought I would just give it to ya all at once so we wouldn't play "21 Questions"!
