How much did you pay for your AR?
I found one for 660. Online of corse, but if you payed over a grand for yours, tacking on the FFL costs, this could be a decent deal seeing as I have been seeing uppers for around this price for quite a while.

Though, it still would save a hassle buying local.

you know, "cheap" and "high quality" rarely go hand in hand, and when AR's (used) are starting at $1200 locally, $660 sounds... interesting
but hey... if you want to go over the the Dark Side go ahead :eck05:

I paid $1200. I don't know enough about the A2 so maybe $600 is what they are going for now, I'm not sure. Of course that is .223 which means it will not except 5.56. If it said 5.56 you could do both. May be wrong though.

No you are correct Robert. The 5.56 is at higher pressures. You can shoot it through a .223 barrel but it will damage the barrel and possible destroy the lining and rifling. I will stick with buying the 5.56 and saving the money I would spend on costly repairs, for ammo.

Also, you can get 5.56 AR's in the $600 range brand new but they will not have any sights. You can get some DPMS Panther rifles for cheap but then again if you're going to add sights later you might as well just buy it all together.

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR142-7.htmlI guess it's the cost of convenience really that makes the 300+ dollar difference.

The problem is during the sale surge and as it slacked off some the bigger companies have literally flooded the market w/ ARs and lowers
Here a new AR, like a Bushmaster will be 850 or so, a Colt 6920 is only like 1100, and lowers are all over for like 90 bucks

Yeah I remember when lowers were like gold, and a complete AR? Impossible. Now they're everywhere.

Checked the link, thats a Century build.
All accounts have been positive but most the parts are used military surplus, but the barrel is a new H-Bar and the lower is amde for them as well
Its not a bad rifle, but Id rather build a new one for like 700 or buy a new one w/ warranty for like 850
If you cant swing it, it would be a great entry level AR, because the A you have in hand, is better than the one you wish you had if the **** already hit the fan
